This is my thesis project from 2017-2018, which explored creating an up-cycled collection of lighting fixtures
Every lifestyle accessory project has a very hands-on process of iterating.
I explored different natural binders to be able to create something from paper waste, that was strong yet pliable enough
It also needed to be resilient to energy coming from light bulbs and be non toxic, pest free and long lasting
I was inspired from papier mache but took a slightly different approach by mixing algae and xanthan gum
This created my material paperclay which was as hard as cement when dried up but when moist you could shape it like clay
Hand-drawn sketches and scaled-down mockups
This gives a sense of how the product will look in the intended surrounding, and what kind of detailing needs to go in and helps create a precursor to a technical specification sheet
